BIATHLON BEARS PROGRAM
Biathlon Canada launches the
Biathlon Bears Community Sport Program
Biathlon Canada
is proud to announce the official release of the new Biathlon
Bears Community Coaching Program.
This
comprehensive club program has been in development for the past three years as
part of the competency based coaching review. While developing the new
community-coaching program, Biathlon Canada recognized the need and
opportunity to re-design it's initial; Biathlon Bears program conceived in the
early 90's.
This
new community sport package includes a full three-level coaching education
curriculum (Bronze, Silver and Gold), a comprehensive three-tier biathlon
skills program and a participant recognition program.
Coaches involved
in delivering the Bears program will find all they need for program
implementation on a single CD that includes all required lesson plans, games
and drills, forms, templates, PR tools and a plethora of other useful items in
the Community Coach tool kit. Furthermore, Gold level community-coaches can
host their own club level Silver and Bronze courses so coaches do not have to
leave their club for this training.
Divisions and
clubs are therefore encouraged to host or attend a community-coaching course
in order to implement this new dynamic, comprehensive and exciting skills
program for children and youth.
As
well for the 2005-2006 season only, Biathlon Canada will allow for these
extraordinary transitional measures to ensure that this program has the widest
possible implementation in the next year
1. Any
NCCP certified level 1 biathlon coach can implement the program as the Leader
in 2005-2006 conditional to having completed their Firearms safety course and
are prepared to follow the Gold training upgrades in the next year.
2. Any
NCCP certified level 1 biathlon coach, or NCCP Tech 1 trained may instruct the
Bears Program in 2005-2006 (however they are not Silver coaches, must complete
required modules to be).
3.
Any
Biathlon NCCP certified coach only needs to follow the Ethics and Implementing
a Bears program module from the Gold curriculum in order to become Gold
Trained.
4.
Any
certified level 1 biathlon coach with Tech 2 completed may attend LF training
if offered in 2005-2006 after which Level 2 certification or Gold
certification will be required.
You may contact
your Divisional office or Biathlon Canada in order to get a list certified
Learning Facilitators that can offer the community coach training program in
your area.
Biathlon
Canada will provide a program CD to all coaches involved in the conduct of
Pilot training in 2004-2005 and an information copy to each Division.
The
French program CD will be completed over the course of the month of September
and be released on October 3rd, 2005.
