Biathlon Canada is seeking a new High Performance Manager. The High Performance Manager (HPM) will play a key role in supporting Biathlon Canada’s High Performance program and overall operations. Biathlon Canada is seeking two wax technicians for the 2027 Canada Winter Games in Quebec. The Biathlon Canada wax techs will be considered Major Technical Officials for the Games, similar to the Technical Delegate and Competition Committee members. Accommodations at, and travel to, from, and during the Games will be provided, as well as a per diem for meals from the Host Society and a Canada Winter Games clothing kit to keep. It is with great sadness that Biathlon NB announces the passing of Ray Kokkonen June 12, 2025. He was deeply involved in the sport of Biathlon since 1967 as an athlete, coach, official and administrator. He took part in nine Olympic Games in an official capacity, including being the Biathlon Competition Chief in the 1988 Calgary Games. He served as the President and Board Chairman of Biathlon Canada for 14 years and later as the President of Biathlon NB for 20 years. Ray was a pillar of biathlon in Canada for decades and we offer our condolences to Ray's famly

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Paul Dorotich, a cherished member of the Canadian biathlon community and former Biathlon Canada staff member. Paul had a long and impactful career in the sport of biathlon and high-performance sport more broadly. He played an influential role in Biathlon Canada’s success from the 1990s through the mid-2000s, helping lay the foundation for future World Championship and Olympic achievements. We extend our heartfelt condolences to Paul’s family, friends, and colleagues.

Emma Lunder announced her retirement at the end of the 2024-25 World Cup season after a 17-year career that saw Emma compete in two Olympic Games, 7 World Championships and over 200 World Cup races notching several top 10 results. Biathlon Canada is proud to announce Cathy Tong as our new High Performance and Operations Manager. Cathy has an impressive career path which reflects her ability to build and lead programs from grassroots to high performance levels. She has worked in sport at the local, provincial and NSO level with organizations like Swim Alberta, Winsport Academy and most recently she held the role of High Performance Director and 2022 Olympic team Lead for long track at Speed Skating Canada. Cathy also is experienced as a coach in figure skating and has done work facilitating the development of strategic plans with provincial organizations. Cathy's skills and qualifications paired with her experience in Canada's sport system will be a great asset to the Biathlon Canada team.

The North American Summer Biathlon Championships in Jericho, Vermont on August 2-4 have been identified as an IBU Regional Event. With assistance from a grant from the IBU, Biathlon Canada has a budget of up to $4000 to offer a travel subsidy to encourage U22 athletes to compete at this event. Biathlon Canada is introducing several updates to its Hosting Policy for the 2024-2025 season. These updates will be presented at an online town hall on zoom on Monday, May 6 at 8pm Eastern Time. This past season one of our long time veteran athletes, Christian Gow, announced his retirement from biathlon. Christian is a 2-time Olympian, 2016 World Championship bronze medallist, and an 11 year National Team member with a biathlon career that spanned over 20 years. He has been a staple on the Canadian team and within international racing for many years, and he was an excellent role model for his teammates and all athletes across the country. Biathlon Canada, Nordiq Canada, Ski Jumping Canada and Nordic Combined Canada are working together on a joint outreach program to promote nordic sport in communities across the country called the Ski Playground Initiative. This past winter the initiative visited communities throughout the country to introduce youth and adults to one or all of the nordic disciplines, with an emphasis on exposure for minority groups.
